FIVE HOTSPOTS THAT WILL SET YOUR MANHATTAN BIRTHDAY ON FIRE

If you’re in Manhattan for your birthday (whatever the number on the cake), you’ve already decided that your celebration should be one for the ages. Once you’ve gotten into the limo and begun the inaugural birthday shots, you might find yourself lost in a sea of nightlife possibilities, and to avoid this (admittedly pleasant) situation, here is a list of must-go Manhattan destinations that will likely take your Manhattan birthday from three-picture-worthy to multiple-Facebook-albums worthy. Don’t forget your camera, you hear?

WANT TO SHOP?

If your idea of a perfect birthday begins with a shopping spree (hopefully to find your dinner/drinks/dancing outfit, right? Or even an outfit for each, maybe?), Manhattan is your absolute best friend forever. You can step out of any Manhattan apartment and be within fifty yards of haute couture, ready-to-wear or some combination of the two. If you’re looking for haute, Madison Avenue will mystify you to your wallet’s content, with multi-tiered shopping experiences in Hermes, Chanel and Prada. If you’re looking for a quick shopping excursion, have your limo driver take you to Fifth Avenue, where department store convenience will make your shopping trip easier. Fifth Avenue also boasts some haute stores (Fendi and Versace) that can’t be found on Madison, as well, of course, as Saks which is the ultimate New York City department store experience.

WANT TO DANCE?

Cielo Nightclub– This nightclub, which is approaching its ten-year anniversary, is located downtown in the Meat Packing district and has won multiple awards for “Best Club” from various New York City publications. It also has a very strong door, so make sure you have the connections (or the clout) to get in, or else you run the embarrassing risk of being turned away and watching your perfect birthday night melt into a puddle of carrying-your-stilettos defeat. If you can get in, be prepared to be astounded by both the décor and the amount of beautiful people lining the dance floor and the barstools. It’ll be like a beautiful-people conveyor belt and you’ll be at the end to catch the finished product.

WANT TO DRINK?

Apotheke– This old-world cocktail bar is decorated in the spirit of European apothecaries (a fancy antiquated term for doctor) and has some interesting furniture (the light sconces emit a pleasant fragrance). Apotheke boasts a list of 200+ specialty cocktails which are categorized into attractive compartments such as “health and beauty” and “aphrodisiacs.” The House Absinthe recipe is supposedly made using a top-secret recipe that is over 200 years old. How’s that for historical relevance?

WANT TO EAT?

NoMad Hotel and Restaurant-One glance at the exterior of this ultra-exclusive New York hotspot, and you’ll know your limo driver brought you the right place. The NoMad restaurant is world-renowned and has a hip, yet elegant feel which will put you at the perfect ease in which to enjoy their classically rich and indulgent menu. Because the chefs at NoMad don’t skip the butter, you shouldn’t skip the dance club when you’re done, unless you want it to be the last time you wear that size 4 party dress. Just sayin’.

WANT TO PARTY?

Ava Lounge– If you’re looking to get down in an ethnically-diverse, party-themed venue, the Ava Lounge will be your birthday poison. There is always a mix of businessmen and artsy locals dancing and mingling in the bar and on the dancefloor. An indoor-outdoor lounge whose decor is reminiscent of a beach theme, the Ava’s 15th floor rooftop overlooks downtown Manhattan, with a view that stretches all the way to Times Square. If you make it to 1 AM, marvel at the Manhattan skyline, perfectly lit, as you enjoy a specialty Tiger Lily.
