HASSLE-FREE FLIGHTS FROM THE HAMPTONS

8 SIGNS YOU DON’T NEED MACARTHUR AIRPORT CAR SERVICE

When it comes to your flying options, you may think that you’re limited to JFK, LaGuardia, or Newark. You do have an additional option, however, in the form of a smaller, regional spot: Long Island McArthur Airport. But we wanted to warn you that this place isn’t for everyone. Why? Some travelers may be extra attached to all the special quirks of the larger airports, and a lot of them they just won’t find here. With that in mind, we’ve made a list of reasons you might not enjoy using MacArthur Airport car service. Check it out below.

1.) YOU LOVE CROWDS

Some people may relish ping-ponging between harried travelers. They might enjoy the risk of getting sick from being exposed to so many people. Plus, it’s kind of fun trying to pick an empty seat out of the sea of occupied ones at LaGuardia. It’s like Where’s Waldo?, but with your personal comfort at stake.

2.) YOU ENJOY STANDING IN SECURITY

Hey, no judgments here. Standing in security does give you ample time to think. Somewhere between rummaging in your bags and taking off your shoes and placing your electronic devices in the security bins, you can reflect on all the things you need to get done. Security lines are at least somewhat useful in that way, right?

3.) YOU REFUSE TO FLY U.S. AIRLINES OR SOUTHWEST

Who cares that since MacArthur only serves these two airlines, the airport is much less crowded? Better to go with an airport that has more carriers, and thus longer security lines, bigger crowds, and more hassle.

4.) YOU DON’T WANT AN HOUR (OR MORE) OF FREE WI-FI

At JFK, free Wi-Fi is available at Terminal 5, a JetBlue terminal. Everywhere else, flyers must pay $4.95 per hour. Free’s not always a good thing, so the paid Wi-Fi at JFK must be a lot better than the free hour MacArthur travelers get, or the completely free Wi-Fi they receive if they happen to be customers of Cablevision’s Optimum Online, TimeWarner Road Runner, Comcast Xfinity, or Bright House Internet.

5.) YOU’RE NOT TRAVELING FOR BUSINESS

In the business world, time really is money. So an airport where your time might go to waste, thanks to crowds and stress and other airport problems, isn’t really a big deal. All these stimuli can challenge your ability to focus, and therefore help you improve your concentration…maybe.

6.) YOU LIKE PLAYING “SPOT THE OUTLET”

Bigger airports mean bigger crowds. Bigger crowds mean less outlets available. But just like trying to find an empty seat, finding an available outlet can be a fun game, even though you may or may not win. Like a slot machine, it’s all up to chance.

7.) YOU’RE NOT ONE FOR WELL-KEPT SECRETS

Local Long Islanders love MacArthur airport for the lack of stress that comes with LGA and JFK. But obviously, those other three other airports are where most of New York travelers are hanging out, so they must be the right places to be.

8.) YOU LIKE YOUR SURROUNDINGS A LITTLE MESSIER

Another side effect of being a smaller airport? MacArthur is cleaner than its larger counterparts. But again, this probably isn’t a big deal. Most airports are messy, anyway, so why bother with a smaller one that isn’t?

Long Island MacArthur Airport is only for the select few. When you’re thinking about how to make your trip the best experience for you, take the factors listed above into consideration. Depending on how you feel about crowds, stress, and security lines, you may find that using the MacArthur Airport isn’t the best choice. But the decision is totally up to you.
