9 Fresh Executive Travel Tips
A few decades ago, business travel was a little bit glamorous. Between comfortable airlines seating and free time at the bar or pool to just network, it was like a paid vacation. Oh, how things have changed. Technology has increased remote productivity, and many of us have no choice but to keep really busy on the road. Some travel services have been reduced while security measures at airports are increased. We can't force your air carrier to transport you back in time to the glamour and luxury of mid-century travel, but we can suggest some ways to ensure your trip isn't a drag:
1. Don't Count on Overhead Bin Space
Ever since checked luggage start costing cash, most people try and maximize their amount of carry-on luggage. You've experienced the fight for space in overhead bins, especially if you're not among the first dozen to bid for room on the plane. Avoid large, rolling suitcases, which can mean you'll be forced to check your bag below. Some travel experts recommend you take two smaller bags instead of one large bag to ensure you're able to find room, even if you're among the last passengers to board the flight.
2. Just One Suit
Pack a single matching suit if you can, and plan your shirts and accessories to match. Wear your heaviest items, such as your suit jacket, on the plane.
3. Be Organized
Organize your carry-on luggage well. If you've got a number of critical items like cables which are easily misplaced, it can be comforting to reach in and know exactly where they're located.
4. Don't Forget Adapters
If you're traveling out of the country, don't forget to make sure you've purchased and packed the right electrical adapter. Read up online, and don't plan to buy one once you land. You could have a hard time finding an adapter in stores, or learn that your hotel or associates don't have one to loan.
5. Plan Ahead for Internet
Internet access isn't always reliable, particularly if you're traveling abroad. While most corner coffee shops offer wireless, security experts recommend you exercise extreme caution, especially if you work with sensitive information or data. Besides, you don't want to get stuck paying upwards of $20 a night for access at your hotel. If you can use your smart phone to connect, make sure it's going to give you access abroad.
6. Pick Your Security Line Carefully
If you're in a hurry, it's not always wisest to hop in the shortest security line. Avoid getting behind passengers in large groups, carrying animals or unusual luggage.
7. Pack Your Carry-Ons Well
You know the reason why boarding is often a drawn-out process? It's caused by poor organization in carry-on bags. Don't be that person who stands in the aisle, holding up traffic, while they rummage through their bags to find their reading material or laptop. Pull it out ahead of time, or organize one bag so it's ready to stow from the get-go.
8. Eat First
If you're going to be flying cross-country or a red-eye, board the plane ready for sleep. Eat a healthy meal an hour or two before you board and ensure you're wearing the most comfortable clothes possible. If you're aware from the start that you're just not going to get enough sleep that night, it's prudent to be as prepared as possible.
9. Eat Healthy and Sleep
Many of the worst aspects of business travel are preventable. Exhaustion, weight gain and stress are all common, due to the fact it's difficult to sleep well and eat right on the go. You can't ensure your associate will be serving a balanced meal at the awards dinner, but you can control your intake when the choice is up to you. Drink as much water as possible, pick your free meals wisely and avoid excessive drinking on the plane.

Regional Foods We Love
New England food is terrible. Actually, nothing could be further from the truth. From lobster to the world's best Italian-American cuisine, there's an abundance of delicious choices for your upcoming nuptials inspired by one of the most beautiful regions in the US. You don't have to go for the boring old chicken or steak at your upcoming ceremony. If you need a bit of inspiration for your ceremony, read on to discover how you can incorporate some of the area's best eats into your New York wedding:
1. Lobster
It wouldn't be New England without a mention of lobster. If you can, try and include some at your wedding. Whether you serve guests full tails or include it in your appetizer, it's a favorite.
2. Oysters
Who doesn't love oysters? Include halved, raw oysters as one of your appetizers or serve them up cooked among a full, seafood buffet. Your guests will be thrilled.
3. Cod
No one loves code like natives of New England. It's a regional favorite baked or grilled, with corn and mashed potatoes.
4. Italian
Italian-inspired dishes are a key component of many weddings in Long Island and New York. Usually something succulent like chicken parmesan stars among the entrees, or the classic but always delightful spaghetti and meatballs. It's a classic.
5. Apples
Brides are going crazy over regional, locally-grown produce for their wedding fare. There's no better way to show your love for New England than to serve up apples grown by local farmers. Whether you decide to offer guests caramel or baked apples, or any other tasty variation, it's sure to be a hit.
6. Kielbasa
If your family originates from Eastern Europe or you're just a fan of kielbasa, it's a great dish to include among the entrees at your wedding.
7. Wild Blueberries
There's few things more reminiscent of summers in the greater New York area than wild blueberries. Offer your guests individually-sized mini tarts or offer pie along with your wedding cake.
8. Baked Beans
It's probably not the most elegant choice for a platinum wedding, but baked beans are a regional favorite. If you're going for a New England-inspired menu from top to bottom, ensure these aren't left out.
9. Pierogi
Who doesn't love fried pastries stuffed with cheese, potatoes or savory meats? A popular Eastern European treat, pierogis are part of the classic New England street food experience. If you're seeking unique appetizers, they're a fresh choice.
10. Bulkie Rolls
San Francisco has sourdough bread and we've got BUlkie rolls. Serve them with garlic butter and your guests will thank you.
Show your love for the beautiful East coast by including at least one regionally-inspired favorite at your upcoming ceremony. Whether you decide to go all out and serve a full menu of local favorites or stick to tried-and-true Italian-American cuisine, it's sure to be a hit.
What are your favorite New England eats?

Planning V-Day Near NYC
November 16, 2012. It's 90 days before the next Valentine's Day. While most of us are still trying to wrap our heads around the fact it's almost time to start Christmas shopping, the truth is that V-Day is rapidly approaching. If you've ever been in the position of trying to find open restaurant reservations on February 12th or 13th and ended up planning a NYC night out that disappointed your girl, you're aware there's no time to waste. We've compiled a comprehensive guide to planning the perfect holiday of love:
How to Score Restaurant Reservations
Even though it's likely the last thing you want to hear, the amount of time in advance you can make reservations at the best restaurants in the greater NYC area varies widely. Some of the best restaurants allow you to make. According to Michael's Restaurant (24 West 55th Street, New York. 212.767.0555), reservations are currently being accepted but they haven't started to pour in just yet. According to the reservationist, Mid-December is typically when they start to receive requests for tables. After the first of the year, the phones start ringing off the hook. To be on the safe side and score a coveted two-top at Michael's, it's wisest to call before 2013.
Marea's Restaurant (240 Central Park South, New York. 212.582.5100) is among the most coveted restaurants for a Valentine's day celebration. Consistently voted the area's top Italian restaurant, Chef Michael White works magic on dishes that range from the obscure (creative stylings of sea urchin) to the familiar, including housemade pastas. A quick call to their reservation desk revealed that scoring a table's really about timing. The restaurant will not accept reservations before 30-days in advance, which means that for coveted day's, it's wisest to call as soon as possible on January 15, 2012.
The message is clear if you don't want to be that guy, who spends the day before February 14th in a panic and cold sweat. Figure out where you want to go and make a quick phone call to determine their reservation policy. Mark your calendar or set up an email alert to ensure you don't forget to call as soon as possible.
Why You Should Go Limo
You'll definitely win some points if you add limo service to your evening out. No one in Brooklyn, Manhattan or Long Island wants to spend their evening taking Metro Transit or trying to fight other couples out of the way for a cab. Go with a Brooklyn limo or an elegant chauffeured sedan to really make your lady feel like the Queen she is. You won't have to worry about that bottle of champagne you split with dinner.
The Bottom Line: Don't Wait to Book
Typical reservations start pouring in for an evening of car service in Mid-December. The longer you wait, the lower your chances of being able to score a ride. Just like tables at coveted restaurants, there's nothing left the week of. Booking today will improve your chances of scoring a gorgeous vintage vehicle, and you may be able to take advantage of guaranteed, lower rates.
Besides, you don't have to worry about missing out on your table at Michael's because you got stuck in the famous NYC traffic. You can pay attention to your girl instead of trying to keep your blood pressure down while heading across the Brooklyn Bridge. V-Day is all about celebrating your love and making your partner feel special. Treat yourself to an evening where you don't have to be behind the wheel and she'll never know you love the experience as much as she does.

Brooklyn's Next Pro Sports Team
As of September 21st, Barclays Center is open in Brooklyn. Between Jay-Z's sold-out concert run in late September and an exciting upcoming events calendar, it's quickly become one of the most sought-after venues for date night or guys' night out in the greater NYC area. The new, 18,000 seat arena is now home to the NBA Nets, who recently relocated from New Jersey, a move that marks the first professional sports team to represent Brooklyn since the 1957. It was just announced that this sports center will also host the NHL Islanders after the conclusion of the 2014-15 season.
Get Your Seats Now!
The NHL Islanders' move is more than a rumor - a 25-year agreement of professional hockey in Brooklyn has been put into place, and Barclays center is already accepting deposits for tickets for the 2015-2016 season. The move should ultimately benefit more than just hockey fanatics near the Barclay's center - attendance has been down the past several seasons at the Nassau center. The players should also benefit from the fact Barclays is brand new.
Getting to Barclays Center
Catching a basketball or hockey game is perfect for date night, a bachelor party or guys night out--unless you get stuck for hours looking for parking. Here are some reasons that a reliable limo service is a good fit for you:
-
A touch of luxury makes your event stand out as memorable. Make a trip to the Barclays Center a celebration, and have your group or special someone travel safely, comfortably, and with class when you book a high-end car service for the evening.
-
No one gets stuck as the designated driver. Everyone in your group can relax and have a good time, knowing that you have a safe and reliable way home at the end of the night.
-
No one in your group has to drive in traffic. You don't have to draw the short straw and submit yourself to the stress of being behind the wheel during rush hour. Take a deep breath and let your driver be your guide.
-
Say goodnight to public transit nightmares. New York City has some of the best public transportation infrastructure in the country, but it's still subject to crowd backups and delays due to malfunctions. Have you ever tried to get between NY Penn and Newark Penn stations when the Devils play at the Prudential Center? You may wait for a train or two to pass, filled to capacity, before you even get on board--and you still might be sitting in an aisle. Don't risk this during your celebration--have a roomy, comfortable ride with a Barclays Center limo service service.
-
Save time and money by skipping the parking deck. Only about 1,000 parking spots are available for the arena, which holds 18,000 people, and some of those spots cost more than $40 a night. If you're lucky enough to get a spot, you'll spend an arm and a leg on it. If the spots are all filled, you'll circle around endlessly, searching for a place to park. Why not cut this whole ordeal out completely, and let someone else drive you?
The Nets will christen their new home court on November 1 in a game against the Knicks--it's a game you don't want to miss. And when you arrive, arrive in style.

Due to the relatively new nature of many of the wineries who star on the Long Island wine scene, cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art equipment blend with age-old growing techniques and Italian vines. Many experts have even described North Fork as one of the most exciting wine regions in the entire world. In our all-new, free eBook "Executive Guide to Long Island Wineries," we've compiled a list of six vineyards and distilleries we personally know and love:
-
Macari Vineyard, who harvest 180 acres of grapes annually to provide their visitors with the best possible product. Their Sauvignon Blanc and 2007 Merlot have received significant critical acclaim.
-
Pindar Vineyards, a local, family-owned gem with a strong commitment to sustainbility. Even grape skins are recycled into compost at this hub. Owner Dr. Herodotus "Dan" Damianos was a pioneer of the Long Island wine industry in the early 1980's.
-
Bedell Cellars Winery, who's gorgeous, historic tasting room was named among the top 25 experiences nationally by Wine Spectator magazine. Don't miss out on their stunning grounds, which have been described by The New York Times as a "world class estate."
-
Baiting Hollow, a gorgeous, natural reserve that doubles as a center for rescued horses. This vineyard is particularly welcoming towards large groups and offers live entertainment each weekend.
-
Pugliese Vineyards, who aren't just known nationally for the quality of their wines. They've also won a number of awards for excellence in packaging. True fans of wine should consider their facility tours, available by appointment.
-
Long Island Spirits, a distillery who focus on artisan, small-batch methods to create some of the region's most beloved vodka, LiV (pronounced to rhyme with five). Tastings can include samples of their famed infused vodkas, which include orange, raspberry and vanilla flavors.
We've compiled a comprehensive guide to each of these top, local destinations that includes everything you need to know about making reservations, hours of operations, costs and any must-try vintages available. While wine tasting is a blast, planning out each of the logistics can require hours of effort. We've done the work for you, so you'll simply need to pick which appeal and make your reservations.
